Richard Eugene "Dick" Gouker, 62, of Mercersburg, Pa., departed this life Wednesday, March 6, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born May 31, 1950, he was the son of the late Joseph Eugene Gouker and the late Elizabeth Robinson Gouker Hurley. 

He attended James Buchanan High School.

Dick married Linda Diana Mellott in 1966, and lost the love of his life in June 2007.

Dick served in the U.S. Air Force from 1973 to 1993. He was stationed in Spain, Saudi Arabia, Texas, the Philippines and Alamogordo, N.M. He served in Operation Desert Storm and retired with the rank of staff sergeant. Dick also obtained his associate degree while serving his country.

After returning home to Mercersburg from the military, he worked as a correctional officer for the state of Maryland.

Dick was past commander of both the Mercersburg American Legion and VFW, a member of the Mercersburg Moose, a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Worshipful Master of the Tularosa Lodge in New Mexico, past member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, N.M., past member of Eastern Star, N.M., and past member of Zembo Shriners in Harrisburg, Pa.

Dick is survived by son, Jeffrey Lynn Gouker; daughter, Vonda Maria Gouker; and granddaughter, Michelle Gouker Djajich, all of McConnellsburg, Pa.; granddaughter, Shiann Gouker of Alamogordo; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Vonda Gouker Wilt of Winchester, Va.; a brother, Ronald Lee Gouker of Mercersburg; a sister, Patricia Ann Wilson of Williamsport, Pa.; and a sister, Josie Gouker Cornelius of Chambersburg, Pa.

Dick was preceded in death by a great-grandson.

A graveside service will be Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Mercersburg American Legion.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 9, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home.
