Elks soccer shoot this weekend

March 05, 2013

The Hagerstown Elks Lodge will host the annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Invitational Soccer Shoot Friday through Sunday.

The tournament will have boys and girls from six states competing in their respective age categories, as well as the six state teams competing to see who has the highest score total. Teams are coming from Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Delmarva area.

The winner takes home the roving regional trophy.

The weekend is filled with soccer and social activities, beginning with a Friday evening pizza party at the Elks Lodge in Hagerstown.

On Saturday morning, after opening ceremonies, the games begin in the South Hagerstown High School gym. Players, ranging in age from 4 to 13, will compete in a number of kicking accuracy challenges. That evening after a buffet, awards and trophies will be announced. Sunday morning will provide time for final farewells.

Approximately 300 children and adults will be involved in this year’s event.

This weekend is cost free to the families and players involved. The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks pays for rooms, meals, full soccer uniform, trophies and soccer balls for each attendee through its charitable programs.

The program is open to any child. For more information, contact the Elks Lodge.
