More than 70 former Williamsport High School varsity boys basketball players, representing five decades of Wildcats basketball, will return to their alma mater for the third Williamsport Alumni Game on Saturday.

The first game will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature players from 1996 through 2012. The second game, featuring players from 1973 to 1996, will follow. Doors will open at 5.

Former Williamsport head coaches Glenn Smith, Kevin Murphy and Deron Crawford are planning to attend the event, while current head coach Scott Mowbray will participate as an alumni player.

“The guys really look forward to this,” said Murphy. “They can take any shot they want without any of the coaches yelling, ‘Pass the ball!’ or, ‘Set a screen!’ I have a feeling it will be raining 3-pointers on Saturday night.”

As with previous alumni games in 2001 and 2009, the Wildcats players are reuniting to raise funds for a worthy cause. All proceeds from Saturday’s event will benefit the Geraldine Andrews Medical Fund.

Geraldine, a Williamsport graduate, is recuperating from liver and kidney transplants. Her husband, Mark, is a past athletic boosters president, and her daughters, Lea and Megan, also are alumni.

“I can’t imagine how difficult their ordeal has been,” said Murphy. “We’re just trying to make things a little easier for the family.”
