Richard Edward "Groundhog" Dayhoff Sr., 72, of 13818 Greenfield Ave., Maugansville, Md., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Sunday, Feb. 2, 1941, in Security, Md., he was the son of the late Clarence Melvin Dayhoff and the late Bertha Mae (Snyder) Dayhoff. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mae (Sisk) Dayhoff, in 1991.

He was employed with Statton Furniture, retiring after 42 years. He was a member of the South Mountain Rod & Gun Club and the Licking Creek Hunt Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Tessa A. Mentzer and husband, Eric, of Maugansville; son, Richard E. Dayhoff Jr. and wife, Donna, of Maugansville; brother, Clarence "Skunk" Dayhoff and wife, Freda, of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Nicole Dayhoff, Joshua Mentzer, Danielle Dayhoff, and Amanda Mentzer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ellen Dayhoff and a sister, Linda C. Chaney.

Services will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor Ron Faith officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 03, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
