Heritage advances to MCST semifinals

BOYS BASKETBALL

Heritage 65, Greater Grace 35

Chris Harrell buried four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points to lead No. 2 seeded Heritage Academy past No. 7 seeded Greater Grace of Baltimore in the quarterfinals of the Maryland Christian School state tournament.

Heritage took command early outscoring Greater Grace 20-8 in the first quarter and took a comfortable 38-20 lead into the half.

Harrell added eight rebounds, Alex Cosner had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Ben Cosner had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (20-2).

Heritage will meet the No. 3 seed Grace Brethren from Waldorf in the semifinals hosted by Greater Grace on Friday at 6 p.m.

GOLF

Petry fires ace

Phil Petry shot a hole-in-one on Feb. 15 at Black Rock Golf Course.

Petry recorded his first ace on No. 2, playing the 115-yard hole with an 8-iron.

His playing partners were Jack Hill, Ronnie Socks and Dick Strock.

Umpire clinic

Maryland District 1 Little League Baseball will hold a clinic for on-field positioning and mechanics for umpires Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Valley Little League in Chewsville.

Green to open basketball school

Former St. Maria Goretti star Lee Green will be expanding his successful basketball school to his hometown.

Lee Green Basketball will be holding the spring select tryouts for boys and girls from grades 4 to 12 on Saturday at St. Maria Goretti.

Green has been running a highly successful school of basketball instruction in the Dallas area and plans on opening a branch in Hagerstown. There is a $10 fee for the tryout.
