Rudy L. Slifer, 77, of Middletown, Md., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Golden Living Nursing Home, Frederick, Md.

Born Feb. 5, 1936 in Middletown, he was the son of the late Wilmer L. and E. Frances Rudy Slifer.

He was a 1954 graduate of Middletown High School; a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown; and a member of the Mason Dixon Corvette Club.

Rudy was formerly employed with Crown Oil and Wax Co. Shell station, Frederick. He was in business for himself for 12 years delivering fuel oil, and retired in 2008 after 28 years of service with Soliday Oil of Hagerstown, as an HVAC technician.

In 2001, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorleen Alexander Slifer.

Surviving Rudy is his son, Kevin W. Slifer and wife, Tammy, of New Market, Md.; one granddaughter, Taryn Slifer, New Market; one sister, Patty Jenkins and husband, Sydney of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one nephew, Chris Jenkins and wife, Brenda, of Bakerton, W.Va.; and his very special friend, Ruth Miller of Wolfsville, Md.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Md., with Pastor Kathy Vitalis-Hoffman officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
