Hagerstown hosts Md. cattle industry convention this weekend

February 26, 2013

The 26th annual Maryland Cattle Industry Convention, along with the Maryland Hay and Pasture Conference, will be held at the Clarion Hotel and Hager Hall Convention Center on Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2.

More than 200 cattle producers from five states are registered to attend.

The annual convention is meant for individuals interested in beef cattle. The educational activities cover practical and current issues that help produce better beef in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible.

The convention includes educational sessions, the Cattle Industry Banquet, the Cattlemen’s Luncheon, and a trade show. The Maryland Cattlemen’s Association Annual Meeting and Election of Directors are also held at the convention

This will mark the 26th year the Maryland Cattle Industry Convention is being held in Hagerstown. The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau provides convention planning assistance, several welcome banners and other services.

The association was formed through the merger of two prominent Maryland beef cattle organizations dating back to the 1950s. This merger, between the Maryland Cattle Producers Association Inc. and the Maryland Beef Cattle Improvement Association Inc. occurred in February 1972. Now the association serves as the unified voice of the state cattle industry and plays both an education and political action role for the benefit of cattle and beef producers across Maryland. In addition, the association promotes Maryland beef and beef products through its Beef Industry Council, established in 1986, using check-off dollars to fund those activities.
