The 32nd annual event will be held at Green Grove Gardens between Shady Grove and Greencastle

February 21, 2013

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — This year’s Waynesboro Area Gala Cancer Auction is taking a hike up Pa. 16.

The 32nd annual auction — which has raised nearly $2 million for the Franklin County unit of the American Cancer Society — will be held March 30 at a new location: Green Grove Gardens off Pa. 16 between Shady Grove, Pa., and Greencastle, Pa.

The event was held at the Waynesboro Eagles Club for many years.

This year’s theme is Time for Cancer to Take a Hike.

The silent auction begins at 4 p.m. and the bidding part of the night gets under way at 5:30 p.m.

Jill Kessler, one of the event organizers, said this year’s auction also features one of the biggest items in its history courtesy of the employees of Aero-Smith of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Aero-Smith has donated a New York City package for four couples. It includes private air travel aboard Aero-Smith’s executive turboprop aircraft from Hagerstown Regional Airport, a limousine ride to the hotel, four hotel rooms and eight tickets to a Broadway show.

More than 110 items will be auctioned by five area auctioneers, who donate their time and abilities for the event. The silent auction tables will hold roughly 600 items, Kessler said.

Food will be sold beginning at 5 p.m.

The catalog of items is in the final editing stage and should be available on the gala auction website by March 1 and in print by March 16, she said.

The auction website is www.acsauction.org.

Kessler said the auction has raised nearly $1.8 million for the local fight against cancer.
