CLEAR SPRING — Brunswick overcame a slow start to topple Clear Spring 62-44 in an MVAL Antietam boys basketball game Monday night.

The Railroaders outscored the Blazers 46-24 in the second half, after trailing 20-16 at halftime.

Clear Spring ran into an existing problem in the second half with sloppy play and couldn’t match Brunswick’s hustle.

“It was a carbon copy of our game against North Carroll (a 71-57 loss last week),” Clear Spring coach Ryan Grabill said. “We didn’t guard anyone. Brunswick shot well and capitalized on our turnovers.”

Clear Spring (7-13, 2-12) only committed one turnover in the first quarter, but racked up 13 over the final three periods.

“Our turnovers led to transition points for (Brunswick) and they were beating us to loose balls. We didn’t play as hard,” Grabill said.

Zach Hossler paced Brunswick (13-9, 9-5) with a game-high 20 points. Joe Fawley added eight points and five assists in the victory.

“(Hossler) went on a nice run tonight,” Brunswick coach Dan McLane said. “He’s been struggling lately, so it was nice to see him snap out of it.”

The Blazers led 13-4 after the first quarter, finishing the period on a 9-1 run. But Brunswick outscored them in each of the final three quarters.

After the Railroaders cut their deficit to four by halftime, they erupted with 26 third-quarter points. They start the quarter on a 9-0 run to give them their first lead of the day and didn’t let up.

“Shots opened up and we started to him them,” McLane said. “We got some stops, got momentum and were able score in transition.”

Senior Ryan Aaron led Clear Spring with 18 points on its Senior Night.
