Scouts presentation set for Sunday in park

On Sunday, a short review of Scouting activities from the past year will be presented at 2:30 p.m. at the Scout House in Shafer Park in Boonsboro.

A dutch oven cooking demonstration, complete with camp food samples will take place, along with other informative events from 2 to 4 p.m.

Oyster dinner

An oyster, turkey and ham dinner will be held Saturday, March 2, from noon to 6 p.m. at Benevola United Methodist Church on Benevola Church Road off Alternate U.S. 40 between Funkstown and Boonsboro. 

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $7 for those younger than 10.

Spaghetti dinner

The Boonsboro Middle and High School Band Boosters invite the community to a spaghetti dinner/band gig Friday, March 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria at Boonsboro High School.

The menu includes spaghetti served with salad, bread and beverage. Baked goods will be also be on sale.

The Boonsboro Middle and High School band students will perform. 

Tickets cost $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and those ages 8 and younger, and are free for those younger than 3.

Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Green Fest update

Nearly 70 vendors have registered so far for the fifth annual Boonsboro Green Fest, set for Saturday, May 11, at Boonsboro’s Shafer Park.

“If vendors keep signing up at this pace, we will surely surpass last year’s record number of 142 vendors,” said Janeen Solberg, vendor coordinator and festival co-chairwoman for the third year in a row.

Each year, the number of vendors and attendees has increased, she said.

The festival features earth-friendly products, services and information, as well as children’s activities, special speakers, music and food, in addition to a wide variety of recycling opportunities.

The vendor application deadline is April 1. Vendors can apply online by going to The vendor fee costs $20 for a 10-square-foot space. Potential vendors with questions can email inquiries to or mail them to P.O. Box 64, Boonsboro, MD 21713.

The festival is sponsored by the 14-member Boonsboro Green Fest Committee.

The festival is also an official event of the Town of Boonsboro.

We hosted four cadets from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy over the weekend (one of whom we are particularly fond).  What a pleasure to spend time with (and feed) such grounded, focused young people. Semper Paratus.
