Mail Call - Feb. 18

February 17, 2013

“Come on, Maryland, do what’s right and raise the minimum wage to $10, which still isn’t close to a decent wage. Also, step up and include restaurant workers, who have to rely on tips to come close to a decent wage. Give a waitress or waiter a minimum wage, and my tip will be for exceptional service.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“I’m from Fairplay. I’ve lived in here for 60-some years. Now we’re saying Mr. Lewis wants to put a truck down at the ag center, and willing to put out $121 to $290-some thousand dollars, when we have a fire company in our community that should be open. I think it’s time the county commissioners open their eyes and open that fire company back up. This is ridiculous.”
— Fairplay

“I am so concerned about the American economy. Food prices and gas prices are just unreal. I would like to know how other people are coping in our community.”
— Hagerstown

“Early last evening, Feb. 4, less than three miles from Waynesboro, a small vehicle passed two vehicles on Md. 60 south. The driver was driving in the northbound lane when he/she indicated with right blinker of its passing the lead car and maneuvered a southbound lane return with five seconds to spare. We continued safely on our journey north to Waynesboro. Question: Why does a driver attempt to use passing lines while cresting a hilltop, where all other drivers appear to be driving at/close to maximum speed? Thank you, Lord, for keeping everyone safe during this very scary moment in time.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“On Fox News today, I see Baltimore will have a $2 billion deficit over the next 10 years. Here comes taxation without representation. We need a Republican governor, like many other states that know how to grow the state economy without raising taxes. Get people jobs in Western Maryland, and you won’t have to speed down Interstate 70 to go to work. Maybe one day you’ll get it, and change party control in this state.”
— Boonsboro

“When does Lew Metzner and the rest of the council and mayor realize that the people don’t want a new ball stadium? It doesn’t matter where they build it. It’s a waste of money. He needs to get with it — or is he looking for a job with the Suns, too?”
— Hagerstown
