Oyster, ham and turkey dinner Saturday

Rohrersville Ruritan will hold an all-you-can-eat oyster, ham and turkey dinner Saturday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Rohrersville Schoolhouse Building, 21023 Rohrersville School Road.

Tickets cost $15 for adults.

The menu includes stuffing, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, gravy and dessert.

Carry out will be available for those who bring containers. The building is handicapped-accessible.

Basket bingo

Potomac Valley Fire Department, seven miles south of Sharpsburg on Harpers Ferry Road in Dargan, will hold a basket bingo Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the fire hall.

Tickets cost $15 per person. The kitchen will be open for food.

Computer classes

Sharpsburg Library will begin computer classes in March from 2 to 4 p.m. each session. The following classes will be offered: Window Basics (March 6), Internet Basics (March 13), email (March 20) and TBD (March 27).

Church to hold hymn sing

Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren, at 123 E. Main St., Sharpsburg, will hold a hymn sing at the church Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Donations will be used for the scholarship fund for Camp Shepherd’s Spring. Refreshments will be served.

Frye to speak

The Keedysville Historical Society will host local writer, guide and preservationist, Dennis E. Frye, for a lecture Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, N. Main St., Keedysville. 

In his recent book, “September Suspense:  Lincoln’s Union in Peril,” Frye draws from  period newspapers to demonstrate how fragile the national bond had become by the fall of 1862.

Copies of his book will be available, as well as light refreshments. Parking is at the rear of the church. The public is welcome.

Chili Cook-off

Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 17626 Bakersville Road, will hold a chili cook-off Saturday, Feb. 23.

Chili can be dropped off starting at 8 a.m. Eating starts at 11 a.m. Judging will begin at 6 p.m. It costs $10 to enter. Tickets cost $8 for all-you-can-eat. Prizes will be awarded for “spiciest” and “most original.”

Sandwiches and chips will be available.

All proceeds  will benefit the Salem Lutheran Vacation Bible School and Micah’s Backpack, a program which feeds children in South County.

St. James to hold indoor yard sale

St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road (Md. 68), will hold an indoor yard sale Saturday, Feb. 23, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. A light lunch of soup and sandwiches will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 30 vendors will be available. Proceeds will benefit the building fund.

Sharpsburg Elementary students will attend many club meetings during February:

Feb. 19 and 21 — Warrior Club for grades three, four and five
Feb. 22  — PTA movie night
Feb. 15 — Cabin Fever Club and grade five Volleyball Club
Feb. 25, 26 and 28 — Warrior Club for grades three and four
Feb. 27 — Yearbook Club
