Tech High students seeking dresses, items for Cinderella's Closet

February 14, 2013

The fifth annual Cinderella’s Closet fundraiser to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County is scheduled for Friday, March 8, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the health occupations classroom at Washington County Technical High School on Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown.

The event, hosted by the Student Government Association at Tech High, is open to the public.

The premise of Cinderella’s Closet is to provide formal dresses for students to purchase at reduced prices.

None of the dresses will be sold for more than $40.

The students are asking for donations of gently worn gowns/formal wear. They need all sizes, however, and a special request is being made for plus-size dresses.

They will also accept accessories, such as gently worn shoes, handbags, ties, coats and suits.
Marjorie Kellman, Skills USA/SGA lead adviser, is overseeing the fundraiser.

Anyone wishing to donate a dress can drop them off at the front office at Tech High, 50 W. Oak Ridge Drive, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. until March 6.

Dresses can also be taken to the animal shelter offices at 13011 Maugansville Road between regular offices hours, which are Monday and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m.  to 4 p.m. until March 6.

“The students were required to do an activity and they once again chose to help the humane society by holding a Cinderella’s Closet and donating the proceeds to the shelter,” Kellman said. “They are very excited about the Cinderella’s Closet and hope they can match last year’s tremendous donation of $1,790.”
