Store owners thank firefighters, others for efforts

To the editor:

On Monday, Feb. 4, a five-alarm fire occurred in the building in which our business, L & J Liquors, is housed. The fire was fought by at least 20 engine companies and five ladder companies from Maryland and West Virginia. They were able to stop the spread of the fire before it reached our liquor store.

As a result, instead of us dealing with a total loss of business, we are dealing mostly with smoke and water damage. Thanks to all of the volunteers who spend much of their free time training for this type of event, and for the hours spent fighting this fire. We regard you as heroes.

Our thanks are also extended to our family, friends, employees and co-workers who offered support and words of encouragement, and to Desert Rose Café, which supplied us with food, drink and a warm place to wait.

We are truly blessed!
