Franklin D. Lum, 80, of Boonsboro, Md., passed from this life while surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

The love of his life for 56 years, Mary Ann (Gantz) Lum, preceded him in death on Thursday, just one week ago.

Born Nov. 16, 1932, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Calvin Milo and Lenora Kathleen (Reeder) Lum.

Frank attended and was a member of the Boonsboro High School class of 1950.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served as a sergeant during the Korean War.

Along with his wife, he was the co-owner and operator of Boonsboro Exxon/Amoco and Frank's Used Cars Inc. in Boonsboro.

Frank was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boonsboro, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge 378 in Hagerstown, Moose Lodge, North American Gun Club, Voiture Nationale, Washington County Republican Club, Elephant Club, Korean War Veterans Association and National Rifle Association; and a life member of Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro. He was instrumental in the start of the original Boonsboro Ambulance Club, and served as assistant fire chief.

He will be remembered for his love of NASCAR and his times spent racing the No. 2 and No. 10 cars at Hagerstown Speedway and other local race tracks.

He is survived by his daughter, Marilee E. Kerns and husband, Jeff, of Boonsboro; his son, Franklin C. Lum and wife, Amy, of Boonsboro; two sisters, Janice L. Miller of Boonsboro and Kathleen L. Rudesill of Middletown, Md.; and three grandchildren, Nick Lum, Emily Lum and Logan Kerns.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William C. Lum.

A celebration of Frank's life journey will take place Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Boonsboro Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 of Boonsboro.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, beginning at noon at the funeral home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.
