A Hagerstown man has been charged with using a BB gun to rob another man Wednesday night in the area of the 200 block of West Franklin Street, the Hagerstown Police Department said.

James Glenn Childers, 18, of 402 A Mitchell Ave., was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft, according to a police department news release.

Police said they received a call at 11:58 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery near the 400 block of West Franklin Street.

The victim, who was not named by police, told officers he was walking when he was stopped by a man who asked for a cigarette. The man then pulled what appeared to be a pistol and demanded that the victim empty his pockets.

Officers said the victim called police after the robber ordered him to leave the area. A short time later, Childers was picked up in the same neighborhood based on a description from the victim.

Police said Childers was carrying a BB gun.
