WAYNESBORO, Pa. — A Waynesboro girl who has her sights set on the Broadway stage traveled to New York City last weekend to audition for a televised singing contest.

Hannah Richardson, 11, said she got cut in the audition process for “La Voz Kids” on Telemundo, but still learned from the experience. She studied the Spanish language over five weeks to participate in the audition, which she said drew hundreds of children.

Hannah performed “At Last” by Etta James.

“I thought I did my absolute best, and I’m proud I did it all in Spanish,” she said.

Hannah has performed at the Apollo Theater in New York City. Regional credits include stage time at the Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg, Pa., Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown, and Antietam Recreation in Hagerstown.

Hannah anticipates auditioning for commercials under the guidance of her new manager, but she also is tracking rumors of a “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” production coming to Broadway. Previews of the show start this May for a production in London’s West End.

“I love theatre music,” Hannah said. “I love Broadway music.”
