Mail Call - Feb. 7

February 06, 2013

“I went to the Hagerstown senior idol contest, and the lady who didn’t win, they put her picture in the paper, and the man who did win the whole contest, they never put his picture in the paper. That makes no sense at all. I don’t think that was fair. I want to see if this gets printed, because a lot of people are talking about how they didn’t even put his picture in the paper.”
— Hagerstown

“A Hancock caller says, ‘the Second Amendment was written precisely to ensure that an armed government would not have an “advantage” over We the People.’ The Second Amendment only mentions a need for a militia, but nothing about what a militia should be used for, and absolutely nothing about a need to overthrow our own government. Too many people have been drinking the NRA Kool-Aid.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m really distressed at the irrational logic of the folks who hold that the Second Amendment is in the Constitution so we can have adequate guns to defend us against a rogue government. So suppose you have your assault weapon(s) and 100-round magazines, and thousands of rounds of ammo in your bunker — but the government has other things you’re presently not allowed to have, like bazookas, flame throwers, tanks, helicopter gunships. ... If the government really wants to take you out, they’re not coming at you with just assault weapons.”
— Brownsville

“President Obama is not going to take your guns. He couldn’t even if he wanted to, and has said that. You gun owners keep trying to discredit him. It’s time to bury the hatchet, admit that he won, and yes, he will be president for another four years. By the way, he won because your Republican candidate lost. I’m a Republican, and keep waiting for a good Republican candidate.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“Recently, talking about gun control, President Obama said, ‘And to repeat what I’ve said earlier, if there is a step we can take that will save even one child from what happened in Newtown, we should take that step.’ Mr. President, outlaw abortions and stop funding Planned Parenthood. Last year, Planned Parenthood aborted (killed) over 300,000 babies and collected over $500 million from the taxpayers for doing so.”
— Hagerstown

“As a law-abiding resident of Hagerstown, I was wondering what rights I have when it comes to a rental property beside of me, because over the last eight to 10 years, the landlord has rented it to people with criminal records. And each one of these tenants have been locked up again, after renting this property. I know that’s public knowledge, because how else would I know this. But it’s the truth. The regular, law-abiding landowners evidently don’t have any rights.”
— Hagerstown

“Regarding Washington County’s attempt to get back, supposedly, back, some of the disparity money, in a microcosm, this is exactly what is wrong with this entire nation. This concept that you start off taking away from somebody who works hard and knows the business and is diligent, and giving it to others, doesn’t work. That’s what’s ruined this country, the entire country ... It’s a slippery slope. Stop it.”
— Chambersburg, Pa.

“I really miss the lighted cross on the silo on Cohill Road, and it’s been out for quite some time, and I wondered if someone could work on it or get it back. It’s such a blessing to see that, particularly at night when we’re coming home from being away from the area for a while. It always gave us a peaceful feeling of coming back to God’s country.”
— Clear Spring

“Now that Norfolk Southern is operational, I would like to invite all Pennsylvania state police officers to come to Hykes Road, because they can easily get their monthly quota for speeding tickets. The closing on Milnor Road now means speed demons can run up and down Hykes all day.”
— State Line, Pa.

“This is in reference to the dog park that they want to have for the town. Well, first of all, you can walk your dog any time you want to, on the sidewalks or in your own yard, and play with them. It’s not a given that you have to have a special park to walk them in. With the economy the way it is, I would think that we don’t need to spend extra money for this. We have children going hungry, and they’re filling backpacks for them to take home. We need to feed children and families first, then they can walk their dog.”
— Hagerstown

“In reference to the airport, on A3 on the 29th, why don’t we do a little story on that,  the new carrier that goes to Dulles versus the other one that went to BWI, how much each of them got a year, how many passengers came in, how many passengers went out, and also that wonderful airline that goes to the south, see what they’re still doing, before the budget gets approved for the airport this year.”
— Leitersburg

“These 34 pregnant girls in school, what happened with sex ed? Not working? Someone is not doing their jobs. Who’s paying for these girls’ prenatal, and birth of these babies? Where is support money for these babies, with their fathers still in school, not working? Taxpayers get this bill.”
