Town buys new snow plow
Smithsburg Town Council members Tuesday night decided to purchase a new snow plow for $5,601, according to Mayor Mildred “Mickey” Myers.
The plow, which uses a 2008 Ford F-350 truck, was purchased from Four Seasons Truck Equipment on Mapleville Road in Smithsburg, Myers said.
A snow plow the town currently owns has been having mechanical problems and city officials are still trying to determine if they want to repair it, Myers said.

Resignation creates vacancies on two boards
There are two vacancies on two Smithsburg town boards now that a man who served on the boards has decided to step down from the groups, said Smithsburg Mayor Mildred “Mickey” Myers.
Mark Cline stepped down from the Smithsburg Parks and Improvement Commission and the Zoning Appeals Board because he is moving out of town, Myers said.

Mayor ‘working things out’ with owner of deteriorating tree
A deteriorating maple tree on West Water Street that Smithsburg Town Council members discussed during the Jan. 8 meeting was back on the agenda for Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Mayor Mildred “Mickey” Myers said Wednesday that she has been in contact with the property owner where the tree is located.
“I’m working things out with her,” Myers said.
The tree is causing safety concerns and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources inspected the tree and determined it is deteriorating, town officials said recently.
The town sent a letter with information from the DNR to the owner of the house where the tree is located but there has been no response to the letter, council members said at the Jan. 8 meeting.
