Fitness trainers workshop to be held in March at HCC

The Washington County Recreation Department and National Exercise Trainers Association will co-sponsor a group fitness instructor certification and a continuing education credit workshop at Hagerstown Community College.

The National Exercise Trainers Association accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies offers hands-on training and certification for fitness professionals.

Instructor certification will be held Saturday, March 2, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

The workshop will teach the foundation necessary to become successful in the fitness industry. The focus is on safe and effective teaching practices.

If you are already a fitness instructor, you can sign up  for the reboot camp workshop and earn continuing education credits at the same time. The workshop is offered Sunday, March 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spaghetti dinner planned Saturday

Modern Woodmen of America Chapter 6118 in Martinsburg, W.Va., is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner for the benefit of Boy Scout Troop 108.

The event will be Saturday, Feb. 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Ringgold Ruritan Building (old schoolhouse).

Tickets cost $7 for those 13 and older, $4 for those ages 6 to 12 and are free for those younger than 6.

Chocolate festival to be held Saturday

Trinity Lutheran Church will hold its annual chocolate festival Saturday from 11  a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will be just in time for Valentine’s Day and will be held at the church, which is at 17 N. Main St. in Smithsburg.

All money raised will go toward the church’s youth mission trip to repair homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy in northern New Jersey.

Shrove Tuesday meal to be held Tuesday, Feb. 12

Covenant Presbyterian Church will host a Shrove Tuesday pancake meal Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The meal will be by donations. Those 12 and younger will eat free.

The breakfast will included all-you-can eat pancakes and sausage.

The community is invited.

There is plenty of free parking at the church, which is at 11833 Greenhill Drive, off Jefferson Boulevard between Eastern Boulevard and Robinwood Drive.
