Janet Miller Gentry, 88, of South Pointe, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at her home.

Born in Huntington, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Richard Gladden Miller and Miriam Jenkyn Miller.

She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Robert Gregory Gentry, in April 2000.

She was a 1945 graduate of Marshall College where she received a liberal arts degree. After graduation she held a variety of positions in industrial and retail services in Huntington, and later worked for the Veterans Administration in Atlanta, Ga. She then returned to Huntington where she married Bob in 1951.

Janet and Bob raised their family in Dunbar, W.Va., Bethel Park, Pa., and Hagerstown, Md. In addition to her homemaking duties, Janet worked at Eyerly's/Bon Ton and volunteered at the Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport, Funkstown American Legion and the Women's Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an active member of the Hagerstown Women's Club.

Janet was preceded in death by brothers, Richard G. Miller Jr. and John J. Miller. She is survived by sons Gregory Gentry of Clear Spring and W. Michael Gentry and his wife, Penny, of Piedmont, S.C.; a daughter, Susan Sowers of Hagerstown; grandson, Christopher Sowers of Hagerstown; grandson, Jeremy Sowers and his wife, Ashley, of Williamsport; grandson, Mark Gentry of New York City, N.Y.; and great-granddaughter, Olivia.

The family would like to thank all of those who cared for Janet during her illness, especially Hospice of Washington County.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 Conococheague St. in Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

A private graveside service will be held immediately following the memorial service. A reception will be held at the Rehoboth United Methodist Church following the services.
