'Parenting Hot Topics' conference set at Girls Inc.

Barbara Martin will host a parenting conference titled “Parenting Hot Topics” at Girls Inc., 626 Washington Ave., Hagerstown on Saturday, March, 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be a variety of speakers from the community who will talk about several topics.

The Hagerstown Regional Childbirth Resources will have a session on childbirth options, a local La Leche League Leader will discuss breastfeeding and its benefits, and Enkore Kids will have a representative from its store to demonstrate the importance of car seat safety.

In addition, Chris Copley from The Herald-Mail Co. will talk about raising teens, engaging them in sports activities and sending them off to college.

Katie Schwartz, a financial planner, will discuss financial planning for families and saving for college.

Hoop shoot held at Winter Street

Recently students in grades three, four and five participated in the basketball hoop shoot contest at Winter Street Elementary.

The school winners  were Amber Kegarise for 8-9-year-old girls; Kymberley Schwartz for 10-11-year-old girls; Manuel Black for 8-9-year-old boys; and Jose Rodriguez for 10-11-year-old boys.

These students went on to compete in the Washington County hoop shoot contest at Williamsport High School on Jan. 12.
