Professionals from Meritus prepare meal for fundraiser

February 05, 2013

Two health care professionals —  moonlighting as Hagerstown's answer to Emeril Lagasee and Mario Batali — served an Italian-themed meal to ten lucky houseguests on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Joseph Ross, president and CEO of Meritus Health, and pathologist Dr. John Newby cooked a multi-course culinary meal at the home of Dr. David Solberg. The dinner was an auction item donated by Dr. Newby and Mr. Ross as part of the Crystal Ball, Meritus Medical Center's biggest fundraising event. Newby has donated his culinary expertise to the event for the past three years while Mr. Ross' talents are a new addition.

Guests sat down to a multiple-course meal that included an antipasto plate with fresh vegetables, melon and prosciutto, homemade pasta with wild mushroom ragut soup, grilled radicchio salad and apricot mousse, to name a few items.

The Crystal Ball raises more than $100,000 for hospital related programs. There might be another chance for a Chefs Newby and Ross dinner awaiting a lucky bidder at the Crystal Ball live auction on Saturday, May 11.
