County housing employees donate $497 to Holly Place

February 04, 2013

Melanie Davis, executive director of Holly Place, a Hagerstown organization that provides housing for seniors, recently received $497 from employees of the Housing Authority of Washington County.

Each Friday, housing employees contribute $1 each for the privilege of “going casual.”

At the end of the year, a vote is taken to determine which charity should receive the year’s collection.

This year, Holly Place was selected because its mission closely aligns with that of the housing authority.

Holly Place has been fortunate the past few months. It received two anonymous grants of $10,000 and another $10,000 donation from Frank Turner in memory of longtime bowling alley employee and former Holly Place resident Joe Bitner.

Holly Place depends on the support of the community to help it stay open and give seniors much-needed safe and affordable homes.

The Housing Authority is an independent arm of the Washington County government whose mission it is to provide safe, affordable housing solutions that strengthen the Washington County community by focusing on local needs.
