Janice Lucille Rowland, 96, of Williamsport, Md., passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at her home.

Born Feb. 25, 1916, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Millard L. and Elizabeth T. Frindinger Kepner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Rowland, in 1968.

She graduated from Shenandoah Valley Academy, attended Washington Missionary College and received her degree in teaching from Shepherd University.

Janice taught third grade at Williamsport Elementary and Smithsburg Elementary schools, retiring in 1980 after 18 years of teaching.

She was a member of Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Women's Prayer Group.

She was a member of the Washington County and Maryland Retired Teachers associations and the Cumberland Valley Retirement Association.

Janice was a volunteer with the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by a brother, Scott Kepner of Hagerstown; four nieces, Barbara Ott, Debbie McElory, Patricia May and Joan Marshall; special friend and caregiver, Valerie Smith; and friends, Barbara Ambrose, Carol Byrkit and Gloria French.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Kepner; and a pre-infant daughter.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Franke Zollman will officiate. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
