Joy Anne Thomas, 61, of Augusta, W.Va., passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.

Born Sept. 24, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Farrabee) Sommerville.

Joy taught school in Hampshire County, W.Va., where she was the sponsor for HOSA.

She was a member of Hampshire County Relay for Life and a member of Tearcoat Church of the Brethren.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Olan Thomas; eight daughters, Tina Hall of Stockport, Ohio, Christina Jackson of Nashville, Tenn., Tennile Martin of Mount Nebo, W.Va., Samantha Ames of Winchester, Va., Amanda Cramer of Stephens City, Va., and Mikiala Whitacre, Alisa Thomas and Kyla Thomas, all of Augusta; three sisters, Gail Kovar of North Royalton, Ohio, and Mary Nickum and Michelle Rodriguez, both of Cleveland; a brother, Timothy Sommerville of Cleveland; and 20 grandchildren.

Joy was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheri Cristea; and two sisters, Debbie Kane and Betty Kovar.

Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Tearcoat Church of Brethren, with Pastor Tom Rowan officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta.

All arrangements are under the direction of McKee Funeral Home, Augusta.
