Betty was promoted to Glory in her home at 538 George St., Hagerstown, Md., in the loving care of her daughter Helena and her son Donnie, family, and friend Ruth. She was surrounded by her family as she departed on Jan. 30, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Stouffer, Littlestown, Pa.; mother, Pauline (Williams) Doyle of South Bend, Ind.; husband, John (Pap) D. Miller Sr., of Williamsport; and brother, Charles J. Stouffer of South Bend.

We will remember she loves God, her children, their families and her dogs, Ernie, Maggie and Bella.

Betty has four children, Debbie Hafer and husband, Fred, of Hanover, Pa., John (Donnie) Miller, Lawrence (Larry) Miller and wife, Pam, and Helena Lee Niswander and deceased husband, Eddie, all of Hagerstown. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Betty was a commissioned soldier and member of the local Salvation Army church near her home. As a single mother, she raised her family and provided for them as a very gifted cook. Betty finished her working career in the food service department at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown. She enjoyed talking about her work and the experiences inside the walls.

She was an avid sports fan of the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles. She has a good sense of humor, and will mostly be remembered for unconditional love for others and generosity, motivated by her love and a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Osborne Funeral Home will coordinate the funeral service, to be held on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army chapel on the corner of Wise Street and George Street. Family will meet friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Commanding officers Majors Robert and Karen Lyle will officiate. Graveside committal service will be conducted at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Donations to the Salvation Army, 525 George St., Hagerstown, MD 21740, or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742, could be considered in lieu of flowers.
