Will the groundhog see his shadow on Saturday? I sure hope not. I think he should sleep in because I am ready for an early spring.

Washington Square UM Church begins holy season

The Lenten season is soon upon us. Don’t forget to order doughnuts from Washington Square United Methodist Church, 538 Washington Ave. for Shrove Tuesday, which is Feb. 12.

The doughnuts cost $2.50 a dozen and can be ordered by calling Patsy Weigand at 301-790-3510 or the church office at 301-739-2653. 

A joint Ash Wednesday service for Washington Square UM and St. Matthew’s will be held at St. Matthew’s UM Church, 443 W. Franklin St. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., which will mark the beginning of the Lenton season.

Fundraiser to benefit Salem Avenue students

Mark your calendars, Salem Avenue Elementary families. There is one date left for the Sweet Frog Fundraiser. 

Stop by The Sweet Frog on Garland Groh Boulevard anytime today with your coupon and 10 percent of the sale will benefit the school’s PBIS committee and it’s BIG School Store.

Also, the Salem Avenue PTA will hold a free family movie night in the school cafeteria Friday at 6:30 p.m. All students must be accompanied by an adult. Families should bring pillows, blankets or sleeping bags to sit on. The name of the movie will be announced in a flier being sent home with students.

The next PTA meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. All interested parents are welcome.
