Jack Carlisle Garns, 85, of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. He resided with his son, Eric Garns, for the last year at 1526 Crestview Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.

Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary E. Dixon Garns.

He served in the U.S. Army during the post-World War II era.

He retired from Conrail.

He was a member of Williamsport Redmen Club, Goodwill Athletic Club (Little Club), and Williamsport American Legion Post 202.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, friends and fellow members of the organizations he belonged to.

He is survived by one daughter, Monja Lesh and husband, Richard; two sons, Eric Garns and Michael Garns and wife, Tracy; one brother, Paul Pottenger; and four grandchildren, Courtney, Mason, Bethany and Diamond, all of Hagerstown.

There will be no service or viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
