The Art of Japanese Landscaping and Bonsai — Saturday, Feb. 16, 9 to 11 a.m. Join Master Gardeners Sylvia Kremp, and Barbara Petrucci for an introductory workshop. Call the Penn State Extension Office at 717-263-9226 to register. The fee is $10.

Beekeeping course — The Franklin County Beekeepers Association is conducting a five-session shortcourse on beginning beekeeping.

The Thursday evening classroom sessions will be on March 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Franklin County Ag Heritage Building, which is at 185 Franklin Farm Lane in Chambersburg, Pa. 

There will also be a field day at a local apiary on Saturday, March 23. Cost for the shortcourse is $35 per family. 

Registration is required and is limited to the first 50 people. You do not have to be a member of the Franklin County Beekeepers Association to register. 

Registration includes a beekeeping manual, disposable gloves, refreshments and membership in the Franklin County Beekeepers Association.

4-H Stream Team Leaders Sought — Penn State Extension is looking for volunteers for its 4-H Stream Team program, which guides youth in learning about local water resources and encourages them to become water stewards and involved citizens, now and in the future. Strong Women Winter 2013 Classes Forming — Three locations: Fayetteville (New Guilford Brethren in Christ) —  Mondays and Wednesdays. 9 to 10 a.m.; Shippensburg (Memorial Lutheran Church) — Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 9 a.m.; and two sessions in Chambersburg (Chambersburg Church of the Brethren) — Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.

Annie’s Project — Tuesday nights through March 19, Adams County Extension Office in Gettysburg, Pa. Annie’s Project is a national Cooperative Extension workshop series designed to empower women who are farm owners or partners, or thinking about becoming one.

Cost of the program is $75 per person for all eight sessions. Class size is limited. Registration is required; to sign up, go to agsci.psu.edu/annies-project or call 717-270-4391.

• To reach the Washington County Extension office, drive about seven miles south of Hagerstown from the I-70 exit onto Sharpsburg Pike.

The office is in the Washington County Agricultural Education Center complex.
