YMCA gala set for Feb. 23

The Hagerstown YMCA Gala fundraiser, “A Toast to the Twenties,” will be Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hager Hall Conference and Event Center on Dual Highway in Hagerstown.

The evening will begin with cocktails at 6:15 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:15 p.m.

Tickets cost $295 per couple and include cocktail hour, dinner for two, dancing and a chance at winning the grand prize, a 2013 Volkswagen Passat or $20,000 in cash. 

Other prizes from area businesses will be given away throughout the evening.

This is the largest fundraiser the Hagerstown YMCA conducts to help support its youth sponsorship programs and families unable to afford memberships.

Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of the YMCA or from any member of the YMCA board of directors.

Losses for the week totaled 25 1/4 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077.  The best TOPS losers were Kathy Freese and Emma Jean Robertson.  The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Rose Shockey, Joan Gilbert and Jean Betker.

Joan Jones won the ha-ha prize  The no-no snack for this week is pie. The team challenge was won this week by Team 2, The Mums, with a 10-pound loss.

The chapter welcomed returning member Sue B.

Mildred Hluchey presented the program on “Recovering From the Holidays.”

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.  Weigh-in is from 7 to 9:15 a.m., and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

NHHS Class of 1968 planning for reunion

The North Hagerstown High School Class of 1968 is planning its 45-year reunion Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20. 

The reunion committee recently mailed “save-the-date” postcards to classmates.

A letter with the details and a reservation form will be mailed in early April.
