A Hagerstown man has come forward to claim his lottery winnings, but the winner of the $575,000 Multi-Match top-tier prize wants to remain anonymous, Maryland Lottery officials said Friday.

The ticket holder had all six numbers in the Jan. 21 Multi-Match drawing. The disabled Army veteran bought his winning ticket at Roxy Liquors at 761 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown, lottery officials said in a news release.

The winning numbers were 1, 2, 13, 22, 37 and 43.

Before he discovered he won, the man joked about possibly being the winner of the Multi-Match jackpot that he knew had been sold by a Hagerstown retailer, according to the release.

“I had several tickets,” he told lottery officials. “And I did get them from that store, but never for a moment did I think it was me who actually won.”

He went to Roxy Liquors and said that when he discovered he had the winning numbers,  “I was in complete shock.”

“I’ve enjoyed playing Multi-Match over the years, but now it’s my absolute favorite game,” lottery officials quoted him as saying.

Roxy Liquors will receive a bonus of $1,000 for selling the winning ticket.

Since its inception in 1973, the Maryland Lottery has awarded more than $19.8 billion in prizes to players and $12.8 billion in revenue to the State of Maryland.
