On Jan. 11, Salem Avenue Elementary School held its geography bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society. 

The 10 student finalists were Riley Parker, Corey Wilt, Dylan Johnson, Emi Erekosima, Dylan Moats, Kaylee Oyler, Jade Steward, Ivan Ramirez, Ryleigh Stine and Katlin Salcutan.

The students participated in the competition that tested knowledge of geography, including facts about the United States and world geography.

The winner was Satcutan and Stine was the first runner-up.

Girls softball registration
The Washington County Girls Softball League will hold its 2013 registration for girls in grades three to eight at Dick’s Sporting Goods, 17780 Garland Groh Blvd. on Saturdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16, and 23, from noon to 5 p.m.

Women’s Club to hold fundraiser dance Feb. 9

The public is invited to an evening of fun, light refreshments and dancing to the band Take Two on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Women’s Club, 31 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown. 


Admission costs $15 for one person and $25 for a couple. Reservations can be made by calling the Women’s Club at 301-739-0870.

Shrove Tuesday doughnuts offered

The Children’s Division of Washington Square United Methodist Church will be selling doughnuts on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The doughnuts cost $2.50 for a dozen.

Proceeds will be used to send the children to Camp Manidokan.

The church is at 538 Washington Ave. next to Western Enterprise Firehall.

Karaoke Night planned Feb. 6

Karaoke night with DJ Bobby Hayes will be Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 15 Randolph Ave.

The event is hosted by Tri-State Civitan Club for the developmentally disabled.

The event is free. Snacks will be available.
