Eastern Panhandle delegates named to W.Va. House rules panel

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Two Eastern Panhandle lawmakers have been named to the powerful Rules Committee in the West Virginia House of Delegates.

Dels. John Overington, R-Berkeley, and Daryl Cowles, R-Morgan, were among a number of committee appointments  for the 81st Legislature announced Tuesday by House Speaker Rick Thompson.

Among major committee assignments, Cowles also was appointed to the Finance Committee and is the only delegate from Morgan, Berkeley or Jefferson counties to be named to it.

Overington, along with Dels. Stephen Skinner, D-Jefferson, and Eric Householder, R-Berkeley, will serve on the Judiciary Committee, and Larry Kump, R-Berkeley, along with freshman Dels. Larry Faircloth and Michael Folk, both R-Berkeley, will serve on the Government Organization Committee.

Dels. Jason Barrett, D-Berkeley, along with Dels. Tiffany Lawrence, D-Jefferson, and Paul Espinosa, R-Jefferson, were named to the Education Committee.

Among other committee appointments, Lawrence will serve as vice chairwoman of the Political Subdivisions Committee.

Cowles and Overington, meanwhile, will serve as minority chairs of the Roads and Transportation and Constitutional Revision committees, respectively. Cowles also will serve as minority vice chairman of the Political Subdivisions Committee and Householder will serve as minority vice chairman of the Health Committee.
