Eugene M. “Sam” Reed, 85, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 10, 1927, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Wilson Leroy and Blanche Beatrice Miller Reed.

He was a 1945 graduate of Williamsport High School, and a graduate of Hagerstown Business College.

He was employed by the Western Maryland Railway of Hagerstown, Md.. for 38 years until his retirement.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

He was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Williamsport, where he served as an elder and was a member of the choir.

He volunteered with Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, where he held the offices of president and treasurer.

He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown, Medairy Lodge 140 AF&AM, Williamsport, Tall Cedars 95 of Hagerstown, and Western Maryland Railway Oldtimers.

He was previously a member of the Williamsport town council and Williamsport library board.

Survivors include wife, Margaret “Margie” Davis Reed, married Sept. 3, 1948, of Williamsport; son, Ashley K. Reed and his wife, Terry, of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Robbie B. Reed and his wife, Gail, of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Joshua, Truman and Carli Reed; and three step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Castle and Virginia Brown.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Williamsport, on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Mark A. Sandell and the Rev. Jeffrey L. Shull officiating. Burial will be private.
