Mail Call - Jan. 21

January 20, 2013

“What a wonderful world it would be if each day each one of us would ask God to let us see others and love others the way that He does.”
— Hagerstown

“After reading the paper today and listening to the news every day, I kind of think that part of the reason our budget is so out of whack is because instead of voting on the bill the way the bill is put into the process, they add all that pork to it all the time. If it was voted on the way it was meant to be, without the pork, then our budget wouldn’t be in the trillions like it is. I think that when I make a budget up and I make it for a certain thing, I can’t afford to add no pork in it.”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“The Morning Herald had an editorial about our legislators keeping their promises in Annapolis. Well, what the editorial failed to mention was, our local representation, these fellows who are our delegates and senators and whatnot, they go to Annapolis thinking about their constituents, which is us, the taxpayers. But when they get down there, they run into brick walls. They can present anything that they want or we want to the people in Annapolis, and that’s where they hit the brick walls. It’s very hard to break through in the area called the metropolis of Maryland.”
— Hagerstown

“Recently someone blew their horn at me while stopping to turn right on red. Read your manual.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m reading Mail Call, Monday, Jan. 14, and someone’s complaining that there’s 348 days until Christmas, and that some people have their Christmas lights up too early. I’m so sorry to bother you, that I haven’t been able to get my decorations down yet. Please tell me if I, you know, like, owe you some kind of monetary amount or something for offending you in such a way. I think you need to speak to a professional. I think you have some issues. You think?”
— Hagerstown

“I just saw on TV where President Obama says if Congress doesn’t raise the debt ceiling that people on Social Security, people who are retired military, people with veterans’ disability, won’t get paid. But I bet you the people in Washington, D.C., will still get paid.”
— Williamsport

“George Bush, the first, got to be in the hospital for seven weeks, for bronchitis and a fever. How about the rest of us? We’d be shipped off to a nursing home. He can afford to pay his hospital bill, but he’s probably using his ‘entitlements’ to pay for his stay. Why don’t we take a look at some of these entitlements these politicians get; lifetime health insurance? They need to be like us and have to worry that a medical bill is going to bankrupt them.”
— Hagerstown

“Isn’t it great to see President Obama and his administration finally controlling the debt of this country, and watching out for the safety of our children?”
— Williamsport
