January 20, 2013

HANCOCK — Two people were taken to Meritus Medical Center on Sunday afternoon after a pickup truck ended up under the trailer portion of a tractor-trailer on eastbound Interstate 68 near Sideling Hill, a Washington County 911 supervisor said.

Both of the injured were in the pickup truck, the 911 supervisor said.

Neither of the injured was believed to have life-threatening injuries, according to Washington County Emergency Services and Maryland State Police.

The accident, west of Hancock, was reported at 4:16 p.m., the 911 supervisor said.

The slow lane was closed briefly following the accident, the 911 supervisor said.

About five dogs were in the pickup truck, and the Humane Society of Washington County responded to pick up the animals since people in the truck had to be taken to the hospital, a Washington County 911 supervisor said.

Hancock Volunteer Fire, Hancock Rescue Squad and firefighters from Little Orleans, Md., also responded to the accident, the 911 supervisor said.
