Edith J. Monroe (Jizz) passed from this life into eternity on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.

She was the daughter of Clifidean Monroe. Edith was born Dec. 23, 1939, in Hagerstown, Md.

Edith is survived by her sisters, Connie Johnson and Ruby Wilson, of Hagerstown; and her brothers, William Monroe and Bruce Johnson. She is also survived by her niece, Penny Schlotterbeck and her husband, Eugene; great-nephew, Cole Schlotterbeck; godsons, Brent and Brandon McCullers of Baltimore; and cousins, Edward and Nellie Monroe of Salisbury, Md. She is also survived by a host of other nieces, nephews, family, co-workers and friends.

Edith was preceded in death by her companion of 42 years, Henry Johnson; and her nephew, Michael Monroe.

As she passed from this world into eternity, she was surrounded by her brothers, Bill and Bruce, and her niece, Penny.

Edith loved working with crafts, needlework, quilting, calligraphy, and her latest project of choosing stones and settings for making jewelry. She was last employed by Spring Grove Hospital in Baltimore. Prior employment included C&P Telephone and AT&T. She volunteered at a nursing home and at the hospital. She loved helping others in any way she could.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 155 Jonathan St., Hagerstown, with services to follow at the church. The Rev. Gibson is to officiate. Burial will immediately follow, in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Building Fund.
