William Edward Knepper of Hagerstown, Md., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born on Sept. 1, 1929, he was the son of the late Eleanor and Charles Knepper.

Bill grew up in Funkstown and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 23, where he achieved the Eagle Scout rank on Sept. 11, 1944. He was a member of the graduating class of 1947 at Hagerstown High School and also attended Hagerstown Junior College.

During his working years he held employment with Hagerstown Canteen Service, Fairchild Aircraft Division, State of Maryland and, in 1986 he retired from Mack Trucks Inc. Bill was one of the first Hagerstown employees to be hired by Mack Trucks. Bill was also a retired captain after many years of service with the U.S. Army Reserve.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Bill was a life-long member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378; Funkstown Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 and the AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married in 1956, and their two daughters, Julie A. Markle and husband, Tim, of Green Valley, Ariz. and Holly K. Citko and husband, Marty, of Catonsville, Md.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim and Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America, 18600 Crestwood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
