County library to hold its annual Easy Picture Book Writing Contest

January 15, 2013

Washington County Free Library will hold its annual Easy Picture Book Writing Contest.

The contest includes five age divisions: children in grades two and three; grades four and five; grades six to eight; grades nine to 12; and adult.

Entrants must be a resident of Washington County, or have a valid Washington County Free Library Card.

Only one entry per person will be accepted. All text and illustrations must be original work and can be on any topic of the writer’s choice.

All entries must include author and illustrator names and age division, address and telephone number.

Books will be judged based on the age of the oldest person on the team.

There will be one winner chosen for each age division.

The winner will receive a hardbound edition of his/her book.

The library also recognizes second- and third-place honorable mentions.

Winners will be honored at a reception to be held during Children’s Book Week (May 13 to 19) where the winning books will be read aloud to the audience.

Entries can be submitted through March 15 to any county library branch, or they can be mailed to: Easy Picture Book Contest, Attn: Patricia Wishard, Washington County Free Library, 101 Tandy Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740

Entries received at branch libraries will be returned to that branch for pick up after the winners are announced.

If you mail your entry, you must include a self- addressed/postage paid envelope if you want your original work returned.

For more information, call Wishard at 301-739-3250, ext. 186.
