MLK Day observance planned at HCC Jan. 21

Hagerstown Community College will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Celebration Monday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Kepler Theater.

The celebration will begin with a musical performance by the New Joy Fellowship Seventh-day Adventist Mass Choir and conclude with a dramatic rendition of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, performed by the Rev. Darin Mency of Greater Campher Temple. Mency will also serve as the keynote speaker.

The event will include a variety of musical performances and readings, as well as a special presentation on the culture of the Trinidad. Students, staff, and faculty are involved in planning the event, which is free and open to the public.

Preschool opens

Pastor Stephanie Steele has announced the opening of Spread Your Wings Learning Center at Christ Lutheran Church, 216 N. Cleveland Avenue, Hagerstown.

The preschool program for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds is modeled after the Maryland state standards for kindergarten readiness.

The two-day program costs $130 per month and the three-day program costs $160 per month.
