Martin Luther King Jr. banquet to feature speaker

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Rev. Lewis M. Anthony, a pastor, community leader and advocate, is slated to speak at the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Committee’s annual banquet and celebration of King on Sunday, organizers announced.

Anthony, who was recently appointed pastor of Saint Lucille AME Zion Church in Washington, was appointed the city’s first youth representative and youth adviser to the mayor-commissioner. He is the chaplain for the metropolitan police and fire departments and holds several church and community leadership positions.

A graduate of Columbia and Harvard universities, Anthony also serves as Episcopal director for ecumenical affairs and government relations for the mid-Atlantic II Episcopal District of the AME Zion Church.

For nearly 30 years, the Scholarship Committee has awarded scholarships to college-bound students from the Eastern Panhandle.
