GREENCASTLE, Pa. — A Greencastle man is celebrating his 50th year as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

Richard Walck became a committee member of Cub Scout Pack 90 in State Line, Pa., in 1962. Since then, he has held a number of positions within Pack 90, Troop 90 and Greencastle’s Troop 99.

His awards and honors include the Outstanding Service Award and Silver Beaver Award.

Walck said he served as the chairman and primary organizer of a Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser for three years. He organized the first Webelo Day Camp held for the Mason-Dixon Council.

Walck said he attended all work weekends at Camp Sinoquipe for many years from the 1960s to 1980s. He has participated in ordeals, pow-wows and conclaves sponsored by the Order of the Arrow.

His sons, Richard and Jeffrey Walck, were active in Scouting during their youths and achieved the Eagle rank.
