Mail Call - Jan. 9

January 08, 2013

“Nice article on Jan. 3 about the Franklin County budget slight increase. Something’s wrong with their picture over there. I cannot see why 73 cents out of all their tax dollars goes for crime, courts and corrections. Do they have any education system over there for public schools and community colleges or anything? Where’s the financial picture on that? I would be asking that question over there.”
— Leitersburg

“I could see why the movie stars, actors and actresses out in Hollywood wanted Obama to be president: Because of the fiscal cliff. One of the things in there is that they’ll give $160 million to the Hollywood film industry, which would help out the actors and actresses, get more money when they make movies. I could see why there’s so many liberal actors and actresses out there. So I know everybody ... all I gotta say, God help America, with President Obama in there.”
— Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

“What a wonderful surprise at Christmas. Somebody dumped off three cats; orange, black-and-gray, black-and-white-and-gray. And I hope they all go right back where they came from, because I sure don’t want them. I don’t feed them, and I’m not going to. So keep your cats at home.”
— Mount Lena

“Tuesday when I was coming out of CVS, I was having a problem getting down off the curb, because I have a bad knee, and I had too many packages. A young man said, ‘Do you need some help?,’ and I said, ‘I sure do.’ He helped me to my car. I want to thank him again, and hope he has a wonderful life. We need more like him, like this young man.”
— Hagerstown

“As regards Gov. Corbett’s efforts to diminish the penalties for Penn State University, it’s time to man up and take your punishment. Penn State got off lightly, given their transgressions. Classic case of ‘Be careful of what you wish for.’ If you get some of the penalties removed, Penn State will be the most despised university in the country.”
— Chambersburg, Pa.

“I get the paper from The Herald-Mail. This morning I was really disgusted, with the homosexual marriage being shown on the front page. I mean, I’m a Christian, and I believe in regular marriage. It’s biblical, and just read Leviticus 18:22, 1 Corinthians 6, 9 through 11. I mean, you know, you just gotta read in the Bible, God is totally against this. I’m just saying, it’s pretty disgusting to be in front-page coverage. I mean it’s a sad day in this world that we live in. That’s all I gotta say.”
— Martinsburg, W.Va.

“I sure wish they could do something with the Sears building. That would have made a grand senior citizens center.”
— Hagerstown

“I’d like to back the caller from Hagerstown, in requesting that foreclosure notices in the paper also list the name of the bank requesting the foreclosure.”
— Smithsburg

“I agree that protection, that more protection and security at schools would certainly be appropriate, but I don’t want my taxes to be increased to do that. Let the county make cuts in their budget to do that.”
— Hagerstown
