Bessie V. Shilling, 88, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at her home.

Born Sept. 3, 1924, near Clear Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary (Mills) Keefer.

She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville.

She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown during World War II; Doubleday Bookbinding Co. in Smithsburg; Fashion Flair in Hagerstown; and Sears in Hagerstown.

She was a volunteer for many years at Western Maryland Hospital in Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard Henry Shilling Sr.; two sons, Richard H. Shilling Jr. and companion, Christine Ellis, and Walter K. Shilling, all of Hagerstown; two daughters, Kathryn D. Wetzel and husband, Doug, and Patricia M. Hull and husband, Perk, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Mary Dicken of Clearville, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Alison, Brian, Ben, Kathryn, Brooke and Morgan; seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Kayla, Sarah, Tyler, Alysa, Averie and Macie; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Weaver and Violet Harris; and three brothers, John Keefer, Merle "Whitey" Keefer and Earl Keefer.

Services will be Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, Chewsville, with the Rev. Linda Warehime and the Rev. John Schildt officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, Md.
