MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man was arrested after West Virginia State Police on Saturday searched the man’s home on Connector Road and found a distillery in the basement, according to a news release.

Anthony Aaron Fortune of 107 Connector Road was charged with unlawful possession or operation of a plant manufacturing distilled spirits, the release said.

Fortune was transported to the Eastern Regional Jail, but a jail spokeswoman said Sunday night that Fortune had been released.

On Friday, Senior Trooper B.D. French received information from a confidential informant about illegal manufacturing of distilled spirits at a home on Connector Road, the release said.

French obtained a search warrant for Fortune’s home and when French and three other troopers searched the home Saturday, they found six firearms, a quart of moonshine, several five-gallon buckets containing cornmeal, five unopened four-pound bags of cornmeal and other items, the release said.
