SMITHSBURG — Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Itnyre Road, Trooper Jim Ardinger of the Maryland State Police said.

The driver of a Jeep pulled out onto Jefferson Boulevard from Itnyre Road and collided with a Honda on the 22000 block of Jefferson Boulevard, Ardinger said.

Both were taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown, Ardinger said. They were the only occupants of the vehicles, he said.

Police responded to the accident at about 7:05 a.m. Wednesday and began directing traffic in the intersection. The road reopened after the Honda was towed away around 7:45 a.m.

The Jeep was in the parking lot at the Total Lube Center, near the crash site. Ardinger said it will have to be towed away as well.

The crash remained under investigation, Ardinger said.
