GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Dr. Joseph Thornton recently was presented the 2012 Physician of the Year Award by Lutheran Home Care & Hospice and LIFE Lutheran Services.

Thornton was nominated by Lisa Beaver, Hospice RN. In nominating him, Beaver noted that he “uses a holistic approach and looks at each of his clients as a whole person. He treats them with the utmost respect. He is extremely sensitive to the clients that I share with him in the hospice spectrum. He is always very willing to accept advice on med regimes to keep clients comfortable. He has conversations with his patients about end-of-life issues and knows their wishes, spending time with them. He is honest and upfront with patients about their disease and patients have often told me how much they appreciate that. His goals, for our hospice clients, are about increasing their quality of life.”

Thornton was presented with a plaque and pen at the staff Christmas party at Greencastle (Pa.) Family Medicine, where he practices.
