Byrl Delmar Hampe Sr., 86, of Allenwood, Pa., formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away peacefully in his sleep, Dec. 26, 2012.

Born June 19, 1926, in Oval, Pa., he was the son of the late Nathan M. and Cleta D. Hampe. He attended public school in Oval. 

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was assigned to the USS Hornet CV-12.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by two daughters, Janet F. Mincemoyer of Watsontown, Pa., and Tari L. Hampe-Deneen of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Charles W. "Chuck" Hampe of Berkeley Springs and Byrl D. Hampe Jr., of Livingston, Mont.; a sister, Janet Scarborough of Clearfield, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor "Ellie" Hampe; a brother, George V. Hampe Sr.; two sisters, Mary Heggenstaller and Catharine Wolfe; and one grandson, Nathan C. Hampe.

He was an avid gardener, cook, hunter and fisherman. He welcomed his friends and family daily with his home cookin'.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Oval Cemetery on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m., with Pastor Ryan Krauss officiating.

Friends and family will be received at Bower-Decker American Legion, Post 251, Montgomery, Pa., following the service.
