In February, Hagerstown Community College’s Board of Trustees is expected to consider a proposal to name the arena inside the school’s Athletic, Recreation and Community Center after former coach and athletic director Jim Brown.

HCC spokeswoman Beth Stull said the matter will be on the agenda for discussion and action at the board’s Feb. 19, 2013, meeting.

The idea surfaced on Aug. 7, when four former Washington County commissioners pitched it to the current board of county commissioners.

The past commissioners presented a list of Brown’s accomplishments, including his work in creating and raising money for the construction of the ARCC.

Some of the current commissioners spoke highly of Brown and agreed to discuss the request further.

During their Sept. 11 meeting, the current commissioners unanimously approved a resolution in support of naming the arena at the ARCC after Brown, according to minutes of that meeting.
